DC Modules
The DC module is the drive side of the SCR house — it takes the driller's throttle & assignment commands & turns them into controlled DC power at the drawworks, the mud pumps, & the rotary table. ETSCO supplies replacement DC modules & module components for legacy (Ross Hill & Hill Hayes) style drive systems.
One SCR bay may serve several masters in a drilling day — drawworks on a trip, a mud pump on bottom — & it is the DC module that makes each assignment behave: ramping the bridge, holding current limit, & protecting motor & thyristors alike.

What the DC module does
In an analog SCR house, each powered bay carries a DC module that closes the loop between the driller & the motor. The module receives the throttle reference from the driller's console, compares it against armature current & voltage feedback, & fires the SCR bridge at exactly the angle that delivers the speed the driller called for — no more, no less. Current limit inside the module is what lets a driller lean on the brake handle without cooking a 752 style motor or clearing a fuse; the interlocks are what keep an unassigned bay dead until it is wanted. When a module fails, the bay goes with it, & the rig runs short-handed until the chassis is replaced.
