Driller’s chair and console controls, where the foot throttle speed reference begins

Foot Throttles

The foot throttle is the driller's most direct connection to the drawworks — a heavy-service speed command mounted flush in the drill floor beside the console, expected to work every trip, in every kind of weather, for years at a stretch. ETSCO supplies replacement foot throttles & related driller's console controls for legacy SCR drive systems.

No component on the rig floor lives a harder life. Mud, cement dust, salt air, & vibration find their way into everything — & a throttle that sticks, jumps, or reads erratic at the pedal puts the driller's finest control at risk exactly when it is needed most.

The throttle reference travels from the drill floor to the SCR bridge that powers the drawworks.

The throttle itself is simple — a sealed pedal mechanism driving a potentiometer — & that simplicity is why it fails honestly: seized linkages, worn potentiometer tracks, broken return springs, & weathered seals. A worn throttle telegraphs itself as dead spots & jumpy response at the pedal. Because the pedal feeds the reference for the drive itself, a questionable throttle deserves the same respect as any other drive component: identify it properly & replace it whole.
