Drillers Consoles
The drillers console is where the rig is actually run. It stands on the drill floor within reach of the drawworks, & it is the station from which power is assigned & commanded to the drilling functions. ETSCO builds drillers consoles in house & supplies the console boards & hardware that legacy (Ross Hill & Hill Hayes) style rigs still depend on.
It is worth being exact about what the console is, because the parts around it get called by its name. The foot throttle is an input to the console, not the console. The console board is the printed circuit assembly inside the SCR house that the console talks to. The console itself is the enclosure, the switches, the throttles, & the lamps in front of the driller.

What the drillers console carries
Behind the panel the console is a signal & contactor station. An assignment switch applies power to the combination of functions the job calls for, so the same line-up serves tripping & drilling without rewiring. Each function then gets its own lockout switch & its own throttle. Lamps across the panel report what is actually on line — which generators, which SCR units, which auxiliary (AC) loads such as blowers & chain oilers. Out of the console go throttle reference signals, contactor control, & supplies; into it come indications from the generators & the SCR units.
Consoles are typically fabricated in stainless steel, & the hand throttle assemblies are a wear item in their own right — the dual pot handwheel assemblies were catalogued in 3 inch & 4 inch sizes. The board inside is worth knowing by name. ETSCO's own photographs show two of them: one carrying the legend of (Ross Hill Controls Corp), one carrying (IDM Equipment Company), & the two share designators & layout, the same design continued under a later name. That is normal for this equipment & it is the reason identification is done from the legend rather than from the shape of the board.
