Drillers Chairs
The drillers chair is the seated version of the drillers console. Controls that once stood on a floor mounted panel are carried on the arms of the chair, the displays sit where the driller is already looking, & the operator works a twelve hour tour without leaving the station. ETSCO builds drillers cabin systems & the seated control stations that go inside them.
This is a control station first & furniture second. Each armrest pod carries joysticks, illuminated pushbuttons including the emergency stop, & rotary selectors legended for the function they command. Behind the upholstery it is wiring, connectors, & signal paths back to the drive system — which is why a chair is specified alongside the console & the drive, not separately from them.

Why the seated station is specified the way it is
Two things drive the design. The first is sightline: the driller has to supervise the floor & the crew while working the controls, so the chair, the pods, & the display array have to be positioned together rather than adjusted one at a time. A chair that adjusts comfortably for the operator but pushes the joysticks out of easy reach, or drops the floor out of view, has solved the wrong problem. The second is the length of the tour. Over twelve hours in a largely fixed posture, seat geometry, height, backrest angle, & lumbar support stop being comfort items & start being the reason an operator is or is not fatigued by the end of it. Armrest mounted joysticks are preferred over other hand controls where arm fatigue or fine accuracy matter, which is precisely the drilling case.
For a rig running legacy analog drives, the chair also has to meet the drive system where it is. Signals leaving the pods have to arrive in a form the existing console & SCR line-up already understand, & the connectors have to match what is in the floor. That is a fabrication question as much as an ergonomic one, which is why ETSCO treats chairs, cabins, & consoles as one scope of work.
